Infinity Ward’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare has had its share of bugs since the game’s release in October 2019. Yet another glitch, this time with the game’s Chopper Gunner killstreak, has cropped up in recent months and remained unaddressed for long enough that some players began to think it was intended behavior.

In Modern Warfare, a killstreak is earned by achieving a certain number of kills on a single life. The Chopper Gunner killstreak allows players to control an assault chopper that has a turret and air-to-land missiles. According to reports from some Modern Warfare players, if a Chopper Gunner is called in near the E flag, the helicopter will run into invisible collision and be unable to enter the map. So rather than fly around wreaking havoc, the chopper will hover outside of the map for a while, often ineffectually far from enemy targets, and then fly away.

The Chopper Gunner is one of the more difficult Modern Warfare killstreaks to obtain because it requires players to take out 10 enemy players without dying. So to have the killstreak not function properly after having worked so hard to earn it can be particularly frustrating.

Although some players thought the Chopper Gunner’s change in behavior was an intentional adjustment by Infinity Ward and not a glitch, the developer finally acknowledged on January 7 that the issue was indeed a bug. However, the issue is marked simply as “fixed in a future update” and “in progress” on Infinity Ward’s official Trello Board, where the company tracks bugs and announces patches, among other things. So there’s no telling when exactly that fix will actually come.

There have also been some recent bugs shared on Reddit that are perhaps less frustrating and more amusing for players. One video showed a player call in a Modern Warfare Care Package that killed them the instant they touched it to try to retrieve the goodies inside. Another bug occurred in Ground War mode when many players spawned inside of a rock wall in the Karst River Quarry map. And another glitch allowed gamers wearing the Dallas Empire team skin to become invisible simply by maintaining a certain distance from other players.

Glitches are par for the course in many games and always have been. Sometimes they can enhance the gameplay experience or provide some good laughs, but at times they are simply exasperating. Modern Warfare has experienced what many players would say is more than a generous helping of all three types of bugs.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare was released in October 2019 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
