Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is getting its next big update on December 18, which will add the next wave of content from Season 1. Not only will the new Call of Duty: Modern Warfare update add new content for players to sink their teeth into, but it will also offer a new version of an existing map that’s getting a holiday-themed makeover.
The Docks Gunfight map will be getting a new look starting on December 18 called Over Winter. It’s set at night, whereas the original version of Docks is set during the day, and it packs the map with Christmas decorations, including wreaths, Christmas trees, lights, and more.
While we know that the Over Winter version of Docks is coming to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare on December 18, there are still some unanswered questions about exactly what the map will entail. For example, we don’t know how long the Over Winter version of Docks will be available in the game, and we also don’t know if it will be added at the expense of the original Docks. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare tends to remove some content when something new is added, so it wouldn’t be all that surprising to see the Over Winter map completely replace the original version of Docks for a short while.
For example, when Call of Duty: Modern Warfare added the Gunfight OSP variant, it replaced the regular version of Gunfight. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare has also added popular game modes like Gun Game, only to remove them and replace them with something else. Modern Warfare’s tendency to cycle content in and out has not been received positively by the community, resulting in some significant backlash in certain cases.
In fact, there was so much backlash to Infinity Ward removing Shoot House 24/7 that the developers quickly backpedaled and added the playlist back to the game. Considering this, it’s unclear if Infinity Ward plans to stick to cycling content in and out of Modern Warfare, so fans will just have to stay tuned to be sure.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
