Activision has revealed its plans for the first season of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. When Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s Season 1 begins, some ranks will be reset, while others will be carried over.

The decision is likely to create a more fair and balanced multiplayer experience so that those in the highest ranks cannot completely dominate newer players with superior loadouts. Between that and all the new modes revealed for Modern Warfare Season 1, players will have a lot to look forward to next month.

For those playing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s multiplayer mode, a reset to ranks will happen when Season 1 begins on December 3. Officer ranks, which consist of ranks 56-155 in the multiplayer game, will be reset, and players will have to earn those ranks again each new season. Any ribbons or weapon blueprints unlocked in those ranked will be ‘immortalized’ for the Call of Duty community to be able to see, but they will no longer be usable. However, Enlisted Ranks, which are ranks 1-55, will not reset. Any ranks and items earned in Enlisted will carry over from season to season.

To help players get to max Officer ranks before Season 1 begins, Activision is running a 2x XP event for Modern Warfare right now. Be forewarned, though, as 2X XP Tokens do not stack with the event, so save them for a later date. The reset ranks also mean 100 new ribbons to earn and even more digital glory to obtain.

The rank reset seems like a good thing for Modern Warfare. It makes the game feel less intimidating for newcomers, as they’re no longer playing against an opponent with super high ranks or someone that took prestige multiple times over to reset their levels. With all the content dropping with Modern Warfare Season 1, December 3 will be a great time for new players to jump in.

Speaking of, it just so happens that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is $38 at select retailers. Now seems like the best time and grab a copy before Season 1 begins!

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is now available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
