Back in December, Reddit user PonyUpDaddy suggested a new game mode for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare dubbed Infected Ground War. As its name suggests, Infected Ground War would take the Infected rules and gameplay and mix it with the large-scale battles and maps provided by Ground War, and now it’s actually becoming a reality. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is getting Infected Ground War at some point in Season 2.

This was confirmed by the Modern Warfare Season 2 road map, which lists Infected Ground War as one of the new multiplayer modes coming this season, alongside Gunfight Tournaments, NVG Reinforce, Demolition, and more. How exactly it will work remains to be seen, but hopefully Call of Duty: Modern Warfare fans get more details sooner rather than later.

So far, there are next to no details about the official Infected Ground War mode that’s coming to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. For example, we don’t know if it will encompass all of the Ground War maps, or if it will just use a select few. We also don’t know if it will be a limited-time mode or a permanent addition to the experience, let alone when Infected Ground War will actually be coming to the game.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Season 2 will be adding a lot of new content besides just Infected Ground War. While more specific details are still unavailable at the time of this writing, we do know that Season 2 will see the release of the Khandor Hideout multiplayer map, along with the new Gunfight map Bazaar. Players can also look forward to adding new Modern Warfare multiplayer operators Talon and Mace to their roster, and expanding their arsenal with new weapons.

Various leaks and official teases have also pointed to Modern Warfare Season 2 adding battle royale, though that has yet to be confirmed. However, so much evidence has mounted in favor of a Modern Warfare battle royale mode that its eventual debut seems more like a matter of “when” than “if.”

Hopefully the Modern Warfare battle royale mode and details on Infected Ground War come soon. In the meantime, Modern Warfare fans can jump into the new Season 2 content that was added with the February 11 update, including fan favorite MW2 map Rust, the new Atlas Superstar map, and more.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
