In a new official release by Activision and Infinity Ward, it’s been confirmed that the Spec Ops mode for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will include 4-player co-op with multiple Spec Ops modes at launch.

Special Ops is an extension of the main campaign, expanding on the story through 4-player co-op missions. Of particular note is that previously Spec Ops missions had a two-player limit, making Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s addition of two extra players an exciting promise for tactics and strategy.

The Special Ops game mode will feature both Operations and Missions. While distinctly different from one another, they both carry some interesting features and playstyles. When gamers play Operations, they and a team of three others will infiltrate a warzone to accomplish a series of objectives. Players will have the freedom to choose how they tackle these objectives, giving a wide range of tactical opportunities. One particular detail that has some players sold on the mode is that the multiplayer perks previously leaked as well as stats, loadouts, and progress will carry over from the MP mode. Players will have the chance to choose which loadout and operator to use in order to best plan with their team.

In Missions, players can go solo or with up to three other players to fight across a more linear experience than the Operations free-play approach. The missions can be replayed, with players earning a 1, 2, or 3 star rank depending on their performance as well as a time to beat.

For those on a bit more of a survival kick, Special Ops will also include a Survival Mode exclusive to the PS4 which will put up to four players in one of three multiplayer maps to fight off waves of increasingly difficult enemies. Though Call of Duty: Modern Warfare has lost a lot of pre-orders due to Survival mode’s exclusivity to the PS4, the company has confirmed that Special Ops Missions and Operations will be coming to all platforms at launch at least.
