Slide canceling is a Call of Duty: Modern Warfare glitch that allows players to initiate a slide and then cancel it so that they can stably fire their weapon almost immediately with no negative repercussions. It’s a very powerful maneuver, especially for aggressive players, and it is certainly a divisive topic within the Modern Warfare community. Despite players’ differing opinions on slide canceling, it’s been allowed in Modern Warfare since launch, but it appears that things may be changing soon.

Recently, Infinity Ward launched a publicly visible Trello board to track many of the team’s ongoing priorities. A Trello board is just a webpage that can be used to track separate tasks, and one of Infinity Ward’s listed tasks has to do with slide canceling in Modern Warfare. When this Trello board launched over a week ago, it confirmed that the the ability for players to “cancel their recovery state when sliding” is a bug planned to be fixed in Modern Warfare’s next update.

Since the Trello was first made public, the slide canceling task has been updated. It is indicated that the fix for the problem now requires more testing and won’t be included with Modern Warfare’s next patch. According to the update, the new release date hasn’t been determined as of yet, but that doesn’t mean that Infinity Ward is reconsidering the fix. It just means that it will take a while longer than expected.

For now, players can assume that the slide canceling maneuver in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare remains a known exploit and that Infinity Ward intends to fix it. That fix won’t be in the next Modern Warfare patch, planned for January 22, but is still being worked on for a later release. Modern Warfare players who are experienced with the slide cancel will continue to able to make the most of the glitch for the foreseeable future. Hopefully for those who don’t use the exploit and don’t like having to deal with it being abused by other players online, the fix will come sooner rather than later.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
