It has been a busy week for fans of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare as the game released Season 2, a free update that brought with it a ton of new content. The latest season brought back fan favorite map Rust, which was last seen in 2009 inside of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Simon “Ghost” Riley has also joined the playable roster of operators, a new Battle Pass has also been activated, and there’s a new Call of Duty League Ruleset Playlist to pick from as well. Naturally, the new season also means new modes to play and it seems this week is bringing back an old favorite.

In this week’s blog post, Activision and Infinity Ward revealed the return of the game mode called Reinforce, which is now live inside of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. Also seen in Call of Duty: Ghosts and Infinity Warfare, Reinforce mixes in a few different elements from other objective style modes including Domination and Search and Rescue. Two teams fight over three strategically placed flags on the map, while getting killed puts the player into spectator mode. If a team captures a flag, all teammates in spectator mode are revived near that flag location.

Unlike other game modes, Reinforce has multiple ways a team can win a round including eliminating all opposing players, holding the most flag when the timer ends, or securing all three flags at once. Winning a round earns 1 point, with 4 total points needed to win the game. With a restriction on spawns, it’s likely that many players will be taking this game mode slower than what is seen on small maps like Shipment or Rust. Position B is also going to be a hot spot on most maps as the teams likely crash into each other there to claim the flag.

Along with the new game mode this week, fans can also enjoy Double Weapon XP. With this modifier active, fans can earn weapon experience double the normal rate, which makes it a great time to level up some of the newer Season 2 weapons like the Grau or Striker 45 to unlock their attachments.

This announcement probably wasn’t the one fans were hoping for. One of the worst kept secrets in gaming right now is Warzone, the currently unofficial Battle Royale mode for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. While Activision and Infinity Ward continue to be silent, there has been a ton of major leaks over the past week outside of the recent classified banner from the game’s main menu. Supposedly, this mode can hold up to 200 people and will also be a free, standalone download for people who don’t own the main game. It’ll be interesting to see if that’s true or not, which could position it to compete with competitors like Fortnite or Apex Legends.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
