A fan of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare has created a mock-up of what the game would look like if it featured Modern Warfare 2’s HUD, bringing back a little bit of nostalgia for the 2009 classic in the shooter franchise. While the HUD itself does look a little dated, it’s still a pretty big improvement over the one currently found in Modern Warfare.
The main difference between the MW2 HUD and the current one is clutter. The MW2 HUD simply shows off more of the screen than Modern Warfare does, making the playing field much more visible during a match. That comes with the obvious benefit of seeing more detail, including enemies. Of course, Modern Warfare has had trouble with camera angles, so any extra advantage fans could have when it comes to spotting enemies is appreciated.
It isn’t likely that Infinity Ward would ever radically change the HUD in Modern Warfare, especially to something found in an older game. That being said, it does prove that it’s possible to over-iterate on something. Part of MW2’s beauty was its simplicity, something that many fans have longed for a return to. A Modern Warfare 2 remaster has been teased in the past, so fans may be able to scratch that itch someday.
Modern Warfare 2 is, arguably, Call of Duty’s most popular entry. It makes sense that fans would want to adopt elements of it back into the game, especially one that is an improvement over what’s currently there. It is, however, almost funny how well the HUD works in the newer iteration of the game, even though the font looks pretty dated. Still, the MW2 HUD is incredibly well designed, and it makes sense that fans would want to incorporate it with the newer iteration of Modern Warfare.
Modern Warfare hasn’t been horribly received by fans, but it has had some issues pop up since launch. Recently, players started exploiting Ground War maps for easy nukes, leading to plenty of frustration from Modern Warfare’s fanbase. Hopefully, Infinity Ward manages to clean up some of the issues, helping Modern Warfare reach the high level of quality that its no-doubt capable of.
