It has certainly been a Season of ups and downs for fans of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, with all the highs of big plays and all the lows of XP glitches. By far the biggest point of contention, however, has been the lack of official info about Warzone, but now the game is finally announced.

A timer in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare has begun counting down to Warzone’s release and an official trailer has also dropped detailing exactly what players can expect out of the mode. Call of Duty: Warzone will have two different modes: Extraction and Battle Royale, each taking place on a large map and supporting 150 players going head to head. Releasing March 10, Call of Duty: Warzone is not just a game mode for Modern Warfare, but rather, is a standalone game.

This means that even players who do not own Modern Warfare will be able to play Warzone, dropping in with players who are accessing it either as an individual, free to play game, or as a free add on to their existing copy of Modern Warfare. The map that they will be playing on is a mix of Modern Warfare Ground War and Special Ops locations that may prove more successful than Modern Warfare’s Blackout, especially since more people will have access to it.

Luckily for fans of the Call of Duty franchise, the long wait for Call of Duty: Warzone is nearly over, which coupled with its free-to-play nature is a cause for celebration for many. While it will take time to determine whether or not Call of Duty: Warzone will be a successful new entry in Modern Warfare’s ongoing saga, it will definitely be interesting to see how both Call of Duty enthusiasts and battle royale game fans respond to Warzone and the unique gameplay features it is bringing to the table come March 10.

Call of Duty: Warzone launches on March 10 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
