When it comes to multiplayer gaming, some like to race each other in vehicles, others like to jump around on platforms and fight, still more like to play actual sports, but if you’re really looking for an addictive adrenaline rush, a first person shooter is your best bet. Forza and other car games are great, Super Smash Bros is always good for a relaxing laugh and some healthy competition, NHL, NFL, FIFA and all other professional league themed games are good fun too, but at the end of the day, they all pale in comparison to a good shoot-em-up.

The debate about the king franchise of the FPS genre is constant these days, with Battlefield, Halo and of course Call of Duty being consistent favorites. Too bad about Medal of Honor: Warfighter being so poor, because the reboot of that series showed some promise and we’d have four FPS series to fight over these days.

But back to the “best franchise” debate: Battlefield games have the most “realistic” experience. The quotation marks are there because it is a video game and in no way realistic, but BF is as close as we’ve seen in an FPS series. The Halo games have brought a completely different sci-fi element to their games and certainly have their charm. Call of Duty, however, is still the choice for many gamers and for good reason. They may have screwed around with some futuristic and downright unusual storylines in recent games, but they keep selling and many fans (like this one), who have been somewhat disappointed by recent installments, remain optimistic for the future.

No matter what happens in the campaigns, however, the multiplayer experience is almost always addictive and fun. Nearly 300 million copies of CoD games have been purchased, respawns number in the quadrillions, and billions of hours have been logged online. This doesn’t happen by accident. While the class creation mechanics change from game to game and weapons change with the times, the maps have to keep up and the amount of detail that goes into these can be staggering. Here are 25 popular CoD maps; how many can you match to the game they appeared in?
