The new Season 3 trailer for Netflix’s Castlevania series is here, and it looks just as amazing as the previous 2 seasons. Fans have been eagerly anticipating the next drop of Castlevania episodes since the series first launched in 2017, and again when Season 2 released in 2018.

The new two-minute trailer looks to continue the flashy, violent, and emotional fights between the monstrous world of Dracula and characters like Trevor Belmont and Sypha. Fans won’t have to wait much longer to see where the show will go next, as Season 3 will premier on Netflix on March 5, 2020.

Some of the story elements thus far have been influenced by Castlevania 3: Dracula’s Curse, with heavy religious and political backdrops. Dracula himself is perhaps the best TV adaptation of the vampire yet, as he is a wonderful balance of powerful and imposing, yet vulnerable and somehow relateable.

The art-style of the Castlevania series is heavily influenced by Japanese anime, which may be thanks to games like Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, a game that many regard as the best in the series. Symphony of the Night used an art style known as bishōnen-style art. It was the first game of the series to use the style and many games following Symphony of the Night used it as well. Bishōnen-style art is Japanese and loosely translates to beautiful youth (boy). A lot of Japenese anime has roots in bishōnen-style art, so the links are strong with the Netflix Castlevania series and the 1997 Symphony of the Night.

Netflix is on a roll recently, as it has made multiple large announcements just over the past couple of weeks, including the fact that eight episodes are on the way for a Resident Evil series in 2021. Video game adaptations on the big screen have often fallen short, whether financially or critically, so switching things up and using Netflix instead is a welcome change of pace.

The success of Castlevania proves that a Netflix adaptation of a video game series may be the best way to creatively expand on a franchise. The recent Sonic movie seems to have had some critical triumph, however, but with a massive track record against video game successes at the box office, that seems to be more of an anomaly than anything.

Castlevania season three will be available to stream on Netflix on March 5th, 2020.
