Polish studio CD Projekt has announced it’s acquired The Flame in the Flood developer The Molasses Flood.

The announcement didn’t reveal the terms of the deal, but welcomed the Boston based developer to the company. A team of former AAA developers founded the studio back in 2014. Prior to the company, these developers had worked on titles like Bioshock, Halo and Guitar Hero to name but three.

As The Molasses Flood, they launched survival game The Flame in the Flood back in 2016. The game was met with glowing reviews including an 8 from us. The studio followed it up in 2020 with Drake Hollow on Xbox One and PC.

Studio Head Forrest Dowling offers up a quote. “When CD Projekt approached us about the possibility of working together, we saw an incredible opportunity to reach a much wider audience through a collaboration with a company we love, creating games in worlds we love”.

As part of their new family, the studio is said to be working “in close cooperation with CD Projekt Red, but will keep their current identity and not be merged with existing teams.”  Intriguingly, the announcement adds they’ll be working on “their own ambitious project which is based on one of CD Projekt’s IPs”.

We don’t know when we’ll find out what that project is, but we’re promised more information soon. Are we looking at a possible The Witcher or Cyberpunk 2077 spinoff, perhaps? For now, we’ll have to wait and see.

The Molasses Flood, a video games development studio located in Boston, joins CD PROJEKT Group. Welcome to the family!
