If you buy Cyberpunk 2077 for the Xbox One, you’re going to receive an Xbox Series X upgrade for free as soon as it becomes available, with CD Projekt Red announcing as much on Twitter this week.
The game, which was initially set for release on April 16, will go out on September 17 instead as the developers have delayed it to ensure everything is in top shape at launch.
They have also made it clear Xbox owners will not have to buy the game twice or spend any money on upgrades if they buy the latest Microsoft console when it drops.
“Gamers should never be forced to purchase the same game twice or pay for upgrades,” they wrote in a tweet. “Owners of Cyberpunk2077 for Xbox One will receive the Xbox Series X upgrade for free when available.”
The tweet also links one from Microsoft that was posted Monday morning in which the company points to it’s Smart Delivery. This reiterates Xbox’s commitment to backwards compatibility, informing fans of the ability to use Smart Delivery for all exclusive titles.
Meanwhile, CDPR’s announcement was also a first as it pertains to a version of Cyberpunk 2077 being available for the Xbox Series X. So there’s your confirmation.
“This technology empowers you to buy a game once and know that – whether you are playing it on Xbox One or Xbox Series X – you are getting the right version of that game on whatever Xbox you’re playing on. We’re making the commitment to use Smart Delivery on all our exclusive Xbox Game Studios titles, including Halo Infinite, ensuring you only have to purchase a title once in order to play the best available version for whichever Xbox console they choose to play on.”
Gamers have reacted pleasantly to the news, with many thanking the two companies for making their decisions easier where getting the upcoming console is concerned.
The Xbox Series X is set to launch in 2020’s holiday season. An exact release date is still unknown, as is pricing information.
