“Gears of War 2 will be bigger, better, and far more badass than the first game.” Oh, Cliff Bleszinski, we do love you. Your words can lead to a million gamers raising their hopes and declaring the return of the chosen one (Marcus Fenix), before the shoddy online matchmaking system tears those hopes to pieces.

It seems that old Cliffy B isn’t opposed to raising hopes once again, before his appearance on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon this Thursday. In a recent tweet, Bleszinski assured fans;

Some of you may remember the Gears of War 2 announcement, where Bleszinski wore a (at least, in my mind) pretty dapper outfit*, along with a Gears of War Lancer, and calmly told the world how awesome Gears of War 2 would be. Now, either this is a simple ploy in order to build up maximum hype for Gears of War 3 (hooray for self-referential marketing!) or Bleszinski is deliberately trying to tell Epic fans, “Guys, don’t get your hopes up. This isn’t Gears of War 3.”

“I shall not say “bigger better blah blah” or carry any weaponry for the Fallon announce.”

Personally, I think it’s got to be the former. Along with EDGE declaring a Gears of War 3 trailer will be available the same day, and with the game being ready for a April 2011 release, well, it all seems to fit perfectly. Unless Epic is working on two games simultaneously,  and two games for a studio that size is certainly not impossible.

*Unfortunately, Cliff Bleszinski has also confirmed he will “not be wearing a smart ass shirt next Thursday.” It’s a crying shame, really.
