Valve head honcho Gabe Newell has confirmed that the Portal Easter Egg featured in Counter-Strike’s Danger Zone mode is just that: an Easter Egg, nothing more. There’s no game reveal planned, so don’t get your hopes up.

The Easter Egg in question is tucked away behind a locked door in room 3 of a motel, and features Portal-related code. Players wondered if this was a subtle way of confirming a new entry in the puzzled-based series is on the way, but apparently not.

The Counter-Strike Twitter confirmed that the whole thing is just a bit of harmless fun. If that wasn’t enough, the founder of the Valve News Network chimed in with word that Newell himself has confirmed it is indeed just an Easter Egg.

Oh well, it was a nice thought while it lasted, eh?

Congrats to all who have found our Portal Easter egg on dz_blacksite! We’re just having a bit of fun and the Easter egg is not a product announcement. Enjoy Danger Zone!
