The original Crackdown game was a surprise hit, critically and financially, selling 1.5 million copies worldwide and receiving critical acclaim across the board. So many eyes are watching the sequel to the rather insane sandbox game now being developed by Ruffian Games. From the VGA trailer it is clear that things are only going to get bigger and crazier but Official Xbox Magazine has just confirmed that a video replay function will be included through DLC in the future.

Executive Producer Peter Conelley told OXM “It won’t be there at release, but that doesn’t mean we’re not going to work on it. We want to do it properly.” He went on to talk further about the prospect of the video replay function:

Crackdown 2 joins another sandbox title this year to bring video capture and replay to the fray (Just Cause 2). I for one think it is about time that sandbox games get video replay functions. The amount of times I have done something awesome or wild in a sandbox game like GTA IV only to be unable to capture that moment and show it to others because I don’t have the right software. So kudos to both developers.

“An important part of Crackdown, the emergent gameplay. People did a lot of things in the first game that we didn’t really know could be done. We’ve expanded it a bit now so we’re expecting them to do more with it this time.”

What do you think? Do you like the idea of video replays? What is the wildest or weirdest moment you have experienced in a sandbox game or any game that you haven’t been able to capture?
