A new trailer for Remothered: Broken Porcelain has been released, and the game promises to be just as creepy and filled with tension as the first title in the series.

Remothered: Broken Porcelain is the second in what is intended to be a trilogy of psychological survival horror games and the first of these, Remothered: Tormented Fathers, was released in 2018 to mostly favorable reviews. Even though it’s a series, it will not be necessary to have played the first game before diving into the second.

The trailer for Broken Porcelain, titled “Home for the Holidays,” shows the struggles of Jen, a young girl expelled from boarding school who has been sent to the Ashmann Inn to work as a maid. The inn, however, does not promise to provide a very peaceful work environment, given its ominous past and the outright hostility of its inhabitants. Among the unfriendly denizens are creatures called stalkers, mysterious hunters trapped in time and confined within the walls of the inn.

Jen will work to uncover the mysteries of the oppressive Ashmann Inn, all while trying quite simply not to die by making use of whatever resources and weapons come to hand. While the game does have combat, it will also be important to gauge when it’s better to sneak, hide, or straight up run away from danger. If the game follows the formula of Tormented Fathers, confrontations with enemies will likely only happen unintentionally or as a last resort. The game will also feature puzzles, expand upon series lore, and mark the return of the first title’s protagonist Rosemary Reed, although it’s as yet unclear how big of a role she will have in the game.

The first entry in the series followed the unsettling story of Rosemary, a chain-smoking 35-year-old woman investigating the disappearance of a young girl named Celeste. Her inquiry leads her to the foreboding mansion of Richard Felton, where she quickly becomes hunted herself and must use stealth and wit to survive while still trying to discover the truth about the missing girl.

The Remothered games are unique in that they were created, written, and directed by Italian video game artist Chris Darril. Tormented Fathers was developed by Stormind Games and published by Darril Arts, but Broken Porcelain will be published by Darril Arts and Modus Games working in collaboration.

Remothered: Broken Porcelain will be available on Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, and Xbox One in 2020.
