More Hackers (Featuring a Special Guest)
The chaos returns, as yet another sponsored ad from NordVPN places Laura Bailey and Sam Riegel back into the hacker seats. Continuing the story from the last time NordVPN sponsored a Critical Role episode, the hackers attempt to crack the Ultra Codex, but they can’t do it alone.
Slight NSFW warning for this clip.
This ad spot features special guest and friend to the show Matthew Lillard, who returns to the acting scene for a brief but hilarious bit as the three hackers attempt to “hack the planet.”
Jester is More Powerful Than Anyone Realized
After the Mighty Nein were hit with the revelation that the Traveler isn’t actually a god, Beau discusses her pre-existing theory with the party that Jester had imagined the Traveler and her powers had been self-developed rather than bestowed on her by a god. We know now that that’s obviously not true, but the implications could still be relevant. After all, Artagan is an archfey and not a god, and although it is confirmed that her powers were granted to her via Artagan, it sounds like the way in which Jester uses them is all her own. Jester may very well be more powerful than anyone realized.
“You’re Small Now”
One of the most hilarious improvisations of the night was when Beauregard, thinking she was still giant, attempts to stomp on an enemy. She rushes over, shouts a war cry, and prepares to pulverize them. What Marisha fails to realize is that she’s no longer enormous, which results in a funny moment as Matt tries to illustrate the transition of big Beau into little Beau with an amazing voice change.
Jester’s Real Name
Completely unbeknownst to the party (and the audience), Jester’s name isn’t actually… Jester. She explains that her mother originally named her Genevieve, but that she didn’t like it so she renamed herself Jester with her mother’s permission. Artagan agrees that Jester is a much more fitting name for the trickster cleric.
Caduceus Uncovers the Truth About His Family
Caduceus had been led by his goddess, the Wildmother, to enter a tropical rainforest with the Mighty Nein in search of his family. After a bit of travel and a fight, the party stumbles upon a cave and a pool of water surrounded by various animal statues. As the party examines these odd statues, they notice that some of them seem to have expressions of fear. Caduceus instantly recognizes a few of them as members of his family petrified in stone, which explains why the family of firbolgs never returned home.
