Nowadays if you’re a game developer and you want to make a little more cash under the guise of “awesome exclusive” you release a special edition. Not to be outdone by Call of Duty’s Prestige Edition, Crytek’s forthcoming shooter Crysis 2 will hit the streets with two special editions in addition to the retail version of the game.
The Limited Edition includes: Bonus XP, a SCAR hologram decoy, a SCAR weapon skin, and a Platinum Dogtag each of which are in-game items.
The Nano Edition includes, besides a steel case packaging, holds a copy of the Limited Edition, an 11 inch statue of the main character standing upon a destroyed taxi cab, an art book, and a backpack modeled after the iconic Nanosuit from the game.
The current price point for the Nano Edition is £119.99 in the UK while the Limited Edition will come at no extra cost.
If you you have a few extra dollars to spend and plan on buying this game you should, at the very least, pick up the Limited Edition. If you do have the slightest inkling towards the Nano Edition, pre-order soon because quantities will be very limited.
Whether you have a highly anticipated game on your hands or not it seems the best way to make it appear as if your game is worth owning is including some sort of gimmick with your special editions. Not only is Crysis bringing us one gimmick, but now we have the option of extra storage by way of a slick backpack.
From what we have seen gameplay-wise, Crysis 2 is going to, at the very least, deliver some thrills and will most likely take down some PCs in the process. Fear not because the game is also being tailored to run silky smooth on the Xbox 360 and PS3.
With Crysis 2 being delayed, gamers will have more time to prepare themselves for the eventual eye explosion and they will also have more time to evaluate Halo: Reach to decide if Crysis does indeed “kill” it.
