Crytek’s latest project is entering closed alpha, and you could be a lucky enough to try it out before anyone else.

The only question is, will your PC be able to run it?

Hunt: Showdown is the latest game to come out of Crytek, veteran developers of the Crysis franchise. We haven’t heard from them in a while, and that’s because they’ve been hard at work getting their latest game ready to begin closed alpha testing.

“Starting on January 31st, a select group of PC gamers will be able to play Hunt: Showdown regularly as part of the game’s Closed Alpha testing phase, via Steam,” reads a statement on the game’s website. The developers will be performing a number of tests during the alpha, mostly centered around gameplay, balance, and backend functionality. Of course, feedback from those lucky enough to be selected to test the game will be taken as well.

And luck will have something to do with who gets in on the alpha. Testers will be randomly selected from a sign-up list and given an email invitation. You’ll need Steam to play the game as that’s where it will be distributed, so keep that in mind.

As for the game itself, it looks very promising. Hunt: Showdown puts you in the role of a bounty hunter tracking down demonic creatures in the Louisiana bayou. Playing solo or in teams of two, you’ll track down these demons and collect the bounty which can then be put towards buying better equipment for the next round.

There’s a battle royale element to the game too. You’re not alone out in the bayou - other bounty hunters will be there too, and they’re after the same thing you are. You’ll want to eliminate the competition just as much as collect the bounty since after you’ve got your demon hide you become a target for every surviving player on the map.

The whole thing has a super dark, gritty, Resident Evil feel to it. If that’s your bag, then maybe you should sign up. But remember, this is Crytek, and they have a tendency to make games focused on the higher end of PC hardware requirements.
