Today, Nintendo revealed Cuphead is coming to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as a Mii Costume. During the latest Smash Bros.-themed Direct, Nintendo unveiled Byleth as the fifth DLC fighter, and there are six more characters in development as we speak.

There are few things in the world of video games as hyped up as fighter reveals for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. The buildup to each fighter is filled with endless speculation and supposed “leaks.” Nintendo floored fans when Joker from Persona 5 was announced at The Game Awards 2018. A bigger deal was the inclusion of Banjo & Kazooie, a fighter players have been wanting in Smash Bros. for years.

Interestingly, a character that generated a large amount of buzz wasn’t actually a character in itself, but a Mii Costume. Sans, the popular skeleton from Undertale, arrived back in September as a Mii Costume. Now, surprising players yet again, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is about to feature another notable indie character Mii Costume.

During the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Direct, Masahiro Sakurai showcased the latest batch of Mii Fighter Costumes. Included are Altaïr from Assassin’s Creed, the Rabbid from Rabbids, X from Mega Man X, and MegaMan.EXE from Mega Man Battle Network. It doesn’t end there. The Direct surprised players with the inclusion of Cuphead from his titular game. Like Sans, he comes with his own music track. The included theme is Floral Fury from the battle against Cagney Carnation. Check out the new Mii Fighter Costumes video below.

Fittingly, the Cuphead costume utilizes Mii Gunner. Although some fans might be disappointed Cuphead isn’t his own fighter, what was able to be done is still impressive. Unlike these other Mii Costumes, at first glace one wouldn’t know Cuphead is actually a Mii. As an example, the X costume is accurate, but it’s obviously just cosplay for the easily-recognizable Mii. If one looks at the above featured image, it actually does look like a Cuphead character model. He even shoots the beams like he does in his game.

Fans on Twitter are having a good time comparing the hype of Cuphead to Byleth with Tweets like this and this. Still, Fire Emblem: Three Houses was a big game last year. It won two awards at The Game Awards 2019, including Best Strategy Game. Three Houses resonated with a lot of players, so Byleth is a welcome addition for them. Those tired of Fire Emblem can look forward to some Cuphead action.

Byleth, along with the new Mii Fighter Costumes, will be available January 28.
