Cyberpunk 2077 has been delayed. Again. Yes, even after CD Projekt Red gave multiple promises to make its November 19 release date, the game has been pushed 21 days. Its new release date is December 10, tentatively. We’ll let you know if that works out.

As per the norm, the announcement was made moments ago via the Cyberpunk 2077 Twitter account. CD Pojekt’s Adam Badowski and Marcin Iwiński began with the new release date and followed up with an apology. According to them, the team reached a hurdle with testing for its nine variations. This includes every version of the game, making it compatible for all last- and next-gen consoles, as well as PC and Stadia. They also note that the team is performing these tests from home — the company sent its people home earlier in the year due to issues surrounding COVID-19.

It wasn’t alone. Many developers have had to make many changes because of the impact of the pandemic. For many, that meant delaying games while having staff members work from the safety of their home. In March, CD Projekt did the same, but noted that the quarantine would not interrupt development of Cyberpunk 2077. But this was back when the game was slated to arrive in September. In June, the company delayed the game until November. With Cyberpunk 2077 now newly delayed to December, we’re hoping its launch will continue staying in 2020.

The gold standard?

The delay comes three weeks following the announcement that the game went gold. This means that the game passed certification and is pretty much finished, barring any last-minute patch work. Badowski and Iwiński address this in the message, noting that the developer will use the time to keep working on the game. The Day 0 patch, they call it, will include “many improvements.” This patch was clearly planned, but the two mention that time needed for it was “undercalculated,” hinting that it’s not just testing that caused the delay.

Cyberpunk 2077 has been delayed until December 10, and will arrive on PC via Steam and GOG.
