The Cyberpunk 2077 world has popped up on the cover of the official art book, giving us our first look at what Night City might look like (via VG247).

It definitely seems like a crammed concrete jungle with roads and alleyways interconnecting all over the luminous yellow cover. To me, the left side of the map looks a little darker than the remainder, which could signify water, and we know that there will be underwater exploration in Cyberpunk 2077. There could be a bay area in the bottom left corner, jetties in the top left corner, and the water might flow into the centre of the city where that roundabout is.

CD Projekt Red had mentioned that Night City would be a lot dinkier than the world of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. “If you look at pure surface [in terms of] square kilometers, then Cyberpunk 2077 might even be a little bit smaller than The Witcher 3, but it’s the density of the content, taking the world of The Witcher and squeezing it right in, deleting the wilderness between,” said Richard Borzymowski, producer of Cyberpunk 2077. “It has to be denser. It wouldn’t give us the end effect we wanted to achieve if the city wouldn’t be believable […] so we packed it full of life.”

It’s possible that the map does extend beyond the dimensions of the art book cover, but even if that wasn’t the case, players will have plenty to look forward to in Night City. Buildings will be traversable and accessible, and there will be underground hideaways. And, the developer has considered expansions to expand upon the content in the game, just like Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

Cyberpunk 2077 releases on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on April 16, 2020.
