The Nintendo Switch has just lost a major third-party exclusive, as Daemon X Machina is coming to PC on February 13.

Daemon X Machina is a mech-focused action game set in a world in which gangs of mercenaries fight against hordes of enemy robots, as well as against each other when the time allows. It had some amazing action set pieces and incredible visuals, but it was held back by a mystifying story and overly verbose NPCs who never shut up during missions.

Daemon X Machina was one of the Switch’s third-party exclusives in 2019. We say “was” because the game now has a Steam page. Daemon X Machina is coming to PC next week, with almost no fanfare or promotion. There is currently a 20% off deal on pre-purchases and fans can claim special DLC items until March 13.

This isn’t the first time that the Switch has lost a major exclusive to Steam, as Octopath Traveler also made its way to PC after spending time on Nintendo’s latest system. It seems that Marvelous Inc. and XSEED Games were hoping that Daemon X Machina could find more of an audience on PC, as the game didn’t sell that well on the Switch. It’s possible that Daemon X Machina was always meant to be a timed exclusive and, like with Octopath Traveler, they kept that fact quiet to make sure it didn’t affect sales of the Switch version.

There is one thing for sure – the modding scene for Daemon X Machina is going to be incredible. It might be the best mech-focused action game on the market today and it’s only going to get better when fans start adding iconic mechs from anime and manga to the game. A prominent modding scene might help Daemon X Machina to find the audience it deserves, as a selection of licensed robot suits and an option to keep the dialogue at a minimum could make for an awesome experience.
