At this year’s Gamescom, Bandai Namco announced that the three Dark Souls installments will be getting getting a collection release in October. Below is the announcement trailer, which features details into what to expect from the release.
Curiously, the Trilogy will release on October 19th. It’s the same day that Dark Souls Remastered releases for Nintendo Switch. It’s odd for just one game to release for one console, and then meanwhile two other consoles get the complete series. Switch players may feel left out. This is not to say that Dark Souls II and III won’t make their way to Switch sometime in the future, but for right now, it is strange to release a collection on the same day that the first game gets ported over to Switch.
Nonetheless, it will be good to have a trilogy collection. The Dark Souls series has been acclaimed, and has a reputation of being extremely challenging. Interestingly, it seems like Dark Souls III was the final Dark Souls installment for good. At gamescom, James Billcliffe of VG24/7 talked with Yasuhiro Kitao, FromSoftware’s communications manager. Via a translator, Kitao stated that, “But as far as Miyazaki has said in interviews previously, the Dark Souls series is finished.” “Miyazazi” is most certainly referring to Hidetaka Miyazaki, creator of the Souls series. Time will tell if a “Dark Souls IV” will be made.
