In the lead up to the eventual release of Dauntless on the Nintendo Switch, developer Phoenix Labs continues to add highly requested features and improvements to the game. Today they released patch 0.9.3, which brings the ability to finally save equipment loadouts for quick changes, a new crafting interface, exotic Repeaters, UI and HUD improvements, and other fan-requested features.
The timing of the patch is sure to drum up discussion about the game, which is already seeing a steady community of players on the PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. The patch comes only a month or so before we see yet another expansion of content to the game, which will be bringing a brand new Behemoth to fight, a bounty system, and a new weapon, which are likely the fist weapons or gauntlets teased briefly during the Nintendo Direct presentation on September 4.
As mentioned, the addition of saved loadouts is sure to be a massive hit with all players. Each Slayer will be provided with one loadout slot to begin with, which will allow them to set their weapons, armor, cells, dyes, transmogs, consumables, and all mods and specials into a single place for quick access. In total, Slayers will be able to unlock a total of five loadouts through a combination of progression and the Mastery System.
An additional nine loadout slots will be made available for purchase in packs of three. Given how important this feature is to competitive players, it feels rather odd to gate the majority of its usable slots behind premium currency, a year and a half after launch.
Patch 0.9.3 also brings various visual improvements to the UI and HUD. The goal is to make the on-screen information during intense Behemoth hunts easier to understand. Weapon and armor crafting have been simplified with a goal of streamlining the entire process, while also providing more visual information. Selecting a weapon or armor piece in a crafting menu will show Slayers the item’s strengths and weaknesses vs. all aether types, detailed cell slot information, how to acquire missing crafting materials, and how that item compares to what is currently equipped.
Finally, in a surprise to everyone, Slayers can now unlock the Twin Suns exotic repeaters in the Dauntless store! This new exotic weapon comes equipped with explosive mag bombs that stick to their target and can be detonated on command.
While the new changes are interesting, to say the least, many players are now wondering when the game will be released for the Nintendo Switch. In June we saw our first glimpse at the gameplay at E3, and the Nintendo Direct showed off a similar looking presentation, but still with no date other than coming in 2019.
