Fresh news out of X10 on everyone’s favorite zombie smash-em-up.  Dead rising 2 will see release in North America August 31st, while our European friends will have to hold on until September 3rd.

Much more exciting is the revelation of Dead Rising 2: Case Zero, an Xbox 360 exclusive playable episode, due shortly before the release of DR2.  From Capcom’s Unity Blog,  “This prologue will introduce main protagonist and former motocross champion Chuck Greene and provide a link between the original game and the events that await players in the gambling paradise of Fortune City.”

Capcom’s official press release also covered the weapon-combination system new to Dead Rising 2.

Dead Rising 2 is looking like a lot of fun, and Case Zero is exactly the kind of promotion I wish more developers would pursue.

“Take two objects, add a roll of tape plus the inventiveness and skilled hands of Chuck Greene and an innocent water gun and a can of gasoline become a deadly flamethrower, while a garden rake and car battery combine to create an electrified zombie prod. Using combination weapons to fend off hordes of the undead in fun and grotesque ways is only just the beginning as the more combo weapons a player uses, the more Prestige Points (PPs) they will rack up. Earn enough PPs and Chuck levels up which will helps him along the way.”

Dead Rising 2 staggers on to PS3, Xbox 360, and PC August 31st in North America, September 3rd in Europe.

Dead Rising: Case Zero releases exclusively for Xbox 360 shortly before the release of Dead Rising 2.
