Although Death Stranding has been out for a little while now, the game has received a new trailer. Developed by Kojima Productions, Death Stranding is one of the more interesting releases of 2019. The highly anticipated game ended up receive favorable reviews, but was quite divisive among a number of players.

Death Stranding takes place in the future, when America has been invaded by creatures called BTs. A man named Sam Bridges is tasked with reconnecting America, bringing hope to a desolate country. Death Stranding continues to be a big discussion point in the gaming industry. The game positioned itself as artistic, which should come as no surprise from Hideo Kojima. The title took home three awards at The Game Awards last week, showing that the unique game resonated with a large number of players. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate director Masahiro Sakurai even had some positive things to say about Death Stranding.

However, a number of critics describe the gameplay as boring and repetitive. Indeed, a number of players find the missions of transporting cargo tedious. Death Stranding is clearly not a game for everyone, and some would say it would have been better as a film. Overall though, the game has been successful.

Today, PlayStation released a new trailer for Death Stranding. Titled “Thriller Short Trailer,” the footage features no gameplay, instead being completely cinematic. Check it out below.

Some may ask why a trailer is being released now, one month after release. There are still people out there who have not played Death Stranding — after hearing about the game’s awards on social media and seeing this vague, cinematic trailer, they may want to check it out. That, or perhaps Sony just wants to capitalize on the game after the great recognition at The Game Awards.

Even if one doesn’t like Death Stranding, there’s no denying the game has a certain uniqueness to it. The characters, from Fragile to Die-Hardman, are certainly memorable. As expected from Kojima, Death Stranding is a cinematic experience. Now, whether or not it trades captivating gameplay for cinematic quality is up for debate. At the end of the day, Death Stranding will probably be on many minds for years to come, which is a success in itself.
