Shrouded in both secrecy and mystery, Death Stranding is one of the most highly anticipated games of the year. With mastermind of narrative and character design Hideo Kojima now backed by his own studio, the excitement is overwhelming. As the November release date looms ever closer, rumors have already begun circulating on the premise of the game, its mechanics, and so much more. However, no one really knows what Death Stranding is all about. One thing we do know for sure is that the game is no longer a PlayStation exclusive.
It has long been speculated that the game will be featured on both PlayStation and PC platforms. This latest news was initially disclosed by ResetEra member vestan early yesterday morning. The user posted a thread discussing how the title was removed from the PlayStation site, relinquishing a great deal of evidence. The post states that if one browses the official PlayStation website, “there’s a selection which lists out all games designated with the Only on PlayStation banner.”
The user continues with more evidence that Death Stranding was removed from the list, as seen in the image below. Vestan even gives further evidence that shows how the game’s disappearance was on a global scale; not just a local one.
With regards to the concern of Death Stranding’s PC availability, Hideo Kojima had always intended on developing Death Stranding for the PC. Back in 2015, Sony even made an announcement that Death Stranding would be a timed exclusive and would later be available on PC. The statement reads, “The title is planned to become available on PC (after PlayStation 4).”
Even the cover highlights the fact that it won’t be PS exclusive, with the “Only on PlayStation” banner missing. Given all of these developments and the fact that Kojima will be at Gamescom, it becomes somewhat apparent that an interesting announcement is on the way. There’s so little of the game that’s truly known, yet speculation swirls like a time fall rainstorm. Although Sony and Kojima haven’t outright said a word on this, it’s very likely that the game will be playable on PC. Kojima has been displaying images of Death Stranding on Twitter every chance he can get. His own excitement for the release may rival our own.
Fans of the Metal Gear Solid series will also remember how Kojima appeared at Gamescon to reveal MSGV on Steam. It’s unclear why Sony stripped Death Stranding completely from its exclusive roster, but onlookers are likely to find out come August 20th. The story looks like an amalgam of PT and Metal Gear Solid, with both stealth mechanics and survival at the core of the game, plus a dash of horror and science fiction to make it interesting. The fact that Kojima plans on having a multiplayer mode in the game is another facet that is also intriguing.
Until Gamescom, gamers will have to comb over the available previews multiple times to get in their Death Stranding fill.
