Variks the Loyal returns in Destiny 2: Beyond Light. He acts as your NPC vendor and bounty provider on Europa. The goal here is to unlock more of Variks’ bounties and perks via Herealways Pieces. Here’s our guide to help you out.

Destiny 2: Beyond Light — Completing Variks’ Sabotage quests and farming Herealways Pieces
First, to get more Herealways Pieces and acquire more of Varik’s Sabotage quests, you’ll need to complete Destiny 2: Beyond Light‘s campaign. After defeating Eramis, return to Zavala in the Tower then speak with Variks back on Europa. You’re given a couple of post-campaign missions here, including Empire’s Fall which rewards you with the Salvation’s Grip exotic grenade launcher.
Note: While doing the objectives, try to grab the Born in Darkness quest from the Exo Stranger too. Several tasks tend to coincide with the enemy types and locations for Variks’ bounties, so you might as well hit two birds with one stone. Plus, you can gain boosts for your Stasis subclass.
Anyway, you should notice that Varik’s Sabotage quests panel is available and there are several quests that you can pick up:
- Tier I – costs 10 Herealways Pieces
- Tier II – costs 20 Herealways Pieces
- Tier III – costs 30 Herelaways Pieces
You’ll find Herealways Pieces whenever you complete public events and lost sectors. Likewise, you should have some Herealways Pieces after doing the aforementioned missions, so go ahead and grab a couple of tier I Sabotage quests.
Just remember that unlike what we’ve seen in previous examples such as Obelisks in Season of Dawn or Rasputin Bunkers in Season of the Worthy, Variks’ Sabotage quests have bounty-like requirements before you can get the perk. It’s not as simple as just farming the resources. As mentioned in our official review, these tasks feel like an unnecessary grind, artificial padding to somehow increase your playtime and create the illusion that the gameplay loop is engaging.
At the very least, you’ll only need to unlock the perks once per account. They’ll be active on your alts after you’ve run them through Destiny 2: Beyond Light‘s campaign.
Regarding the remaining Variks Sabotage quests and perks, several are currently unavailable. However, we might see them added in the next few weeks. The additional data-mined information comes from Light.gg.
Week 2 update: Thanks to the “world’s first” team clearing the Destiny 2: Beyond Light‘s Deep Stone Crypt raid, Guardians can now see Europa’s Eclipsed Zone. If you open Europa’s map, you’ll notice that an area has a Darkness pyramid icon. This is the Eclipsed Zone for the current weekly reset.
You’ll also notice that more of Variks’ Sabotage quests have become available. Meanwhile, others at a higher tier would require you to obtain the perk from the previous row first.

Tier II Variks Sabotage quests
Tier III Variks Sabotage quests
Empire Hunts
Regarding Empire Hunts, each run costs 40 Herealways Pieces, so make sure you obtain the “Empire Hunt I” perk first to halve the cost.
Likewise, when you’re trying to do “Empire Hunt II,” try to complete all the tasks in one run even if you need to wipe and redo a boss fight for extra mob kills. That’s because each quest you pick up still requires you to do all the previous objectives (i.e., preliminary steps, completing the conflux mini-event, or helping the skiff escape).
In any case, we discuss this content in detail in our Destiny 2: Beyond Light Empire Hunts guide.
