Until Destiny 2’s highly-anticipated Shadowkeep expansion comes out, there’s not much for fans to do except content themselves with the activities available to them until Destiny 2’s Year 3 begins. Some of these, many have pointed out, are more trouble than they’re worth. Luckily, Bungie has heard the complaints and will be making some key adjustments next week.

The activities in question are the quests for two of Destiny 2’s most coveted grenade launchers, the Mountaintop and Wendigo GL3 pinnacle weapons. Both have demanded much from players seeking to unlock them, and both have worn down the fun for players frustrated with the excessive grind.

All that will change with the release of the next update, Hotfix 2.5.2.2, next Tuesday. Among the “several targeted quality-of-life improvements to the Destiny 2 experience,” there will be a number of QOL improvements for the Mountaintop and Wendigo GL3 quests. This is something Bungie has been teasing for weeks now, but today the specifics for how the quests will be improved were finally revealed.

With the Mountaintop quest, players can look forward to the number of multi-kills and medals required to unlock the weapon being lowered from 200 and 100, respectively, to 75 and 25. Furthermore, points earned in Iron Banner will be doubled from what they’re at now, while Competitive play will be tripled.

The Wendigo, meanwhile will see grenade launcher kills that are “worth 100% more for each objective,” the removal of the final objective death penalty that slows down the points earned from kills, a 50% buff to multi-kills, and a “significant amount of progress towards the final objective” rewarded for completing Playlist strikes.

This should go a long way to ensuring nobody else has to suffer getting the Mountaintop Grenade Launcher like they’ve been for the last few months. Bear in mind, as things stand currently players have to score 500 multi-kills, land 1,500 final blows, and score a certain amount of additional points from kills to complete just the Wendigo quest. Also bear in mind that these quests can only be completed using grenade launchers, weapons that are far from the best choice in most typical shootout situations, to the frustration of many.

In short, the hotfix can’t come soon enough. And with Shadowkeep coming to Destiny 2 in just a little over a month, that should allow players who’ve yet to unlock the Mountaintop and the Wendigo GL3 enough time to not only unlock them but get a good feel for them before diving into the start of Year 3, which kicks off with Shadowkeep’s release on October 1.

Destiny 2 is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, with a Google Stadia version in the works.
