Bungie has disabled the Wormgod Caress Titan exotic in Destiny 2 after players discovered a “game-breaking” glitch involving the armor piece’s perk. Using a simple trick, players could deal massive damage with the Wormgod Caress equipped and apparently Bungie saw that as enough of a problem to disable the exotic.

While this glitch had likely been in Destiny 2 since the start of the Season of Dawn, it was only recently that players discovered it’s utility. With the Wormgod Caress equipped, players could build up the Burning Fists buff, “pocket” the buff by switching to a different gauntlet, and then keep it active by switching back to the exotic.

There weren’t many uses for this trick, but it did allow Destiny 2 players to deal massive damage to a single target like a raid boss using the Burning Maul’s melee hammer. Many Destiny 2 players, for example, used the trick to beat Riven, the Last Wish raid boss, solo. Each hammer throw could deal an absurd amount of damage and all players would need to do is pick it up and throw again.

With the buff active, Titans could deal damage in the sextuple digits or even more when using a shotgun with One-Two Punch or a Tractor Cannon buff. But the buff was always limited and required a certain amount of melee kill juggling in order to ensure maximum damage.

And so because the buff refreshes with every kill, players could only use it for those specific situations. Still, Bungie would rather not see players trivialize its endgame content using the exploit and decided it was best to disable the Wormgod Caress.

However, by disabling the exotic, Bungie has called into question its practices when it comes to overpowered weapons and exotics. Many players have called for overpowered exotics like the Lord of Wolves to be disabled to better balance PvP, but Bungie decided instead to give players an emblem to reward their suffering. But when an exotic benefits PvE players and allows them to accomplish seemingly impossible feats like beating raid bosses solo, Bungie is quick to act.

Bungie has yet to reveal when Destiny 2 players can expect the Wormgod Caress exotic to be re-enabled, but it likely won’t be anytime soon. There are more pressing issues on the developer’s docket like fixing the EDZ Obelisk bug that prevents players from interacting with the Season of Dawn installation.

Destiny 2 is available now for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
