Bungie has announced that Destiny 2 will be unplayable today for six hours. For UK gamers this will be between 2pm and 8pm BST. The game will be inaccessible during this time as part of the weekly maintenance to the game, and the implementation of new features.

One new addition that’ll be coming this week is a special event called Faction Rallies. This’ll begin at 10am BST September 26, and you’ll be able to volunteer for a faction or support one that has the loot you want the most.

Destiny 2 services will be offline tomorrow (9/25) for maintenance. Expected duration is 6 AM through 12 PM PDT. https://t.co/Ocy0lEVMfq

Destiny 2’s senior designer, Tim Williams, spoke about Faction Rallies, saying that, ‘Each of the factions of the Tower is having a rally to collect resources for its cause. They’re recruiting Guardians to gather supplies for their faction and destroy enemy resources. They’ll offer a suite of rewards to help the Guardians rise up against any enemy threats.’ Players will undertake activities to gain Faction Rewards, and these can be traded in for loot.

Players will also receive access to a powerful weapon as a reward for joining — and being successful for — a particular faction. These weapons will eventually be available to everyone, but they’ll be discounted for those who are part of the faction offering the weapon.

There’ll be three factions, and players will need to be at level 20 before they can choose which one to join. These factions are represented by ‘Arach Jalaal from Dead Orbit, Lakshmi-2 from Future War Cult, and Executor Hideo of New Monarchy’. Make your choice wisely though, because once you’ve chosen a faction for a character, that’s it.
