Trials of Osiris is expected to return in Season 10 of Destiny 2, and players can start preparing now for the much-anticipated PvP endgame event coming back. One of the biggest ways to prepare is to have a highly-effective arsenal of weapons that are at the top of the meta. While Destiny 2’s season 10 will almost certainly add some weapons to the game, many of the most effective PvP weapons will likely remain there in Season 10.

In general, hand cannons are at the top of the meta in Destiny 2, accounting for nearly 35% of all the kills in the Crucible according to stat site Guardian.gg. Pulse rifles are the other most popular primary weapon type at 10% of kills. Unsurprisingly, the most popular special weapons are shotguns and snipers with around 15% of kills each. If players have well-rolled, favorite weapons that are in these weapon classes, they will definitely be strong contenders during Trials of Osiris.

But outside of those classes in general, the following weapons are at the top of their respective weapon types and definitely worth getting before Season 10 begins and Trials of Osiris comes back.

Spare Rations

Spare Rations is hands down the best Legendary hand cannon in the game, alone accounting for 12% of the kills in PvP. It is in the popular 150 RPM hand cannon archetype, has high aim assistance and bullet magnetism, and can roll with top tier perk combinations. Players can earn Spare Rations from the Reckoning and Gambit Prime. The most effective way to farm Spare Rations is by playing the Reckoning Tier 2 on the days that the Likeness of Oryx is the boss.

The perks will be up to personal preference, but most players will be looking for the combination of Full Bore, Richochet Rounds, Rapid Hit / Snapshot Sights, Slideshot / Rangefinder / Moving Target with a Range Masterwork. Interestingly, there is also the curated roll of Spare Rations that some players may want as well, which comes with a fixed roll of Hammer Forged Rifling, Appended Mag, Overflow, and Explosive Payload. This is the only way to get Explosive Payload on Spare Rations, which can come in handy because the explosive round damage does not suffer from damage dropoff, so players can consistently deal that extra damage at any range even if the main damage is reduced from being further away from a target.

The only way to get the curated roll of Spare Rations is in Gambit Prime. It cannot drop from The Reckoning. It has a chance to drop alongside a Collector’s Synth, which is earned by either banking 50 motes in one match or by quickly collecting 15 motes.

Mindbender’s Ambition

Mindbender’s Ambition is arguably the best PvP shotgun in the game, and it will absolutely be a major player in Trials of Osiris unless it gets heavily nerfed or the meta shifts in a major way. The only way to get Mindbender’s Ambition is from The Hollowed Lair Nightfall. Players will have to wait until The Hollowed Lair shows up as one of the three Nightfalls for the week and then they can speedrun the strike in hopes of getting Mindbender’s Ambition to drop. The best perks to get are Rifled Barrel / Full Choke, Accurized Rounds / Assault Mag, Slideshot / Snapshot, Quickdraw.

Beloved

For players who are more fond of sniper rifles than shotguns, one of the best snipers in the game is Beloved. Beloved is earned from the Menagerie and can be easily farmed. Players simply need to be the Rune of Jubilation in their Chalice in slot 1, any red run in slot 2, and then in slot 3 either any purple rune for a Handling Masterwork or any green rune for a Range Masterwork.

There are two distinct Beloved rolls that will depend on what kind of sniper each player is—an aggressive, quickscope playstyle or a peeking/hard-laning, at-distance sniper. Aggressive snipers should look for Fluted Barrel, Accurized Rounds, Snapshot Sights, Quickdraw and a Handling Masterwork. Snipers who want to engage from a distance should look for Hammer-Forged Rifling, Accurized Rounds, No Distractions / Snapshot, Moving Target with a Range Masterwork.

Exotic and Pinnacle Weapons

The above weapons can be farmed, but other weapons that have fixed rolls and should be dominant in Trials include The Last Word, Thorn, Ace of Spades (especially on PC), Lord of Wolves (also top-tier on PC, specifically), Truth, Luna’s Howl/Not Forgotten, and Revoker. All of these can be earned via their respective quests except for Lord of Wolves which drops randomly from completing Wanted bounties from the Spider on the Tangled Shore.

Destiny 2 is available now for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
