Here’s how you get Upgrade Modules in Destiny 2.
In most other looter-shooters, a gun’s level is a set thing that never changes. If you find a gun early in your journey, there will someday come a time where your character grows beyond that low-level gun and you’ll set it aside in some digital vault, forever forgotten. Or you’ll dismantle it for parts–it depends if the game has a crafting system or not.
In Destiny 2, you don’t have to let your old guns die. You can renew them with Upgrade Modules, items that let you take a high-level gun and sacrifice it to bring back an old favorite in a process called “infusion.” This also works for armor too.
Infusing is pretty simple. Just navigate to the weapon you wish to upgrade from your inventory, get into the “details” screen, and then click on “infuse.” You’ll then be asked to select a higher-level weapon you wish to sacrifice in order for your old weapon to gain the sacrificed weapon’s power level.
However, in order to infuse anything, you need an Upgrade Module. These handy items are hard to come by as there are only three ways of obtaining them.
The first is through your Season Pass. Luckily, everyone gets free Upgrade Modules at various points in the Season Pass regardless of whether you’ve got a paid Pass or not. Season of the Dawn gave players 8 free Upgrade Modules very early in the season, so we expect Season of the Worthy to do the same.
The second method is by completing weekly bounties from Banshee-44, the gunsmith. These weekly bounties just require you to do what you’re already doing: shoot things in the head. One bounty will provide progress for shooting things on a specific planet that rotates every week, while the other gives progress for shooting things in the core activities, namely Strikes, Crucible, and Gambit. Bonus progress is provided for Precision kills, Power and Energy Weapon kills, and Lost Sectors.
The last way to get Upgrade Modules is to buy them directly from Banshee-44, but they’re on the pricey side. Each Upgrade Module will cost 1 Enhancement Core, 10 Legendary Shards, 25 resources from a planetary location (that rotates every day, and 5,000 Glimmer. For new players, this can be a lot to ask for, but veteran players should be able to swing it. And if not, Spider can help you out–for a price.
With Season of the Worthy arriving on March 10th, Guardians will want to stock up on Upgrade Modules to ensure all their favorite guns and armor will level-up with them.
