Destiny 2 players who plan on playing the game today should note that the servers will be down for a short period of time this morning/afternoon. It’s been announced by Bungie that Destiny 2 servers will go down at about 8am PT, for a period of roughly 30 minutes. During that time, the game will be completely inaccessible as Bungie performs routine maintenance. When the Destiny 2 servers come back up, players may be stuck in a queue for a bit, but it shouldn’t take long for them to get back into the game.

Destiny 2 server maintenance is something that longtime players of the game should be readily familiar with, but those that are new to Destiny 2 because of the free-to-play New Light version of the game. The free-to-play version of Destiny 2 has helped the game break its concurrent player records, so we know that there are quite a few people who are experiencing it for the very first time, and may be confused as to why the servers will be unavailable on October 3 from 8am PT for about half an hour.

Not only has the New Light version of Destiny 2 breathed new life into Bungie’s looter-shooter, but the new expansion has done a lot for the game as well. The release of the free-to-play Destiny 2 coincided with the launch of the game’s Shadowkeep expansion, which adds a significant chunk of content to the experience.

Those playing the New Light version of Destiny 2 won’t be able to play the Shadowkeep content without shelling out some cash for the expansion, but there is still a ton of things for them to do in the game. The Destiny 2: New Light free content includes almost everything from Year 1, including the base game main story quest in addition to the story quests for the Warmind and Curse of Osiris expansions, not to mention the Year 1 raids. With the sheer amount of content available in the free-to-play version, Destiny 2: New Light players should be busy for quite some time before they would need to pick up Forsaken or Shadowkeep.

Of course, server maintenance will keep Destiny 2: New Light players and everyone else from diving into the content, but it should be over with before too long. And at least it’s not the Destiny 2 Weasel errors that plagued the game during Shadowkeep’s launch.

Destiny 2 is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, with a Stadia version also in development.
