Destiny 2 players do not have long to wait for the release of the game’s Shadowkeep expansion with just a few days to go before its October 1st launch. But the last day before launch could feel like a long wait for fans considering that Destiny 2 will be taken completely offline for maintenance in preparation for everything that is coming with Shadowkeep.

Destiny 2 and Destiny 1 are scheduled to go offline on Monday, September 30th at 10 a.m. PDT and stay offline across all platforms until 10 a.m. PDT on October 1st when Shadowkeep will officially release. In addition to not being able to access the game itself, players will also be unable to sign into Bungie.net or any third-party apps that use the Destiny API.

This maintenance is meant to prepare and start multiple processes of change for Destiny 2. Destiny 2 is set to undergo major changes to a lot of core systems of the game with the addition of Shadowkeep: new content, the Moon destination, the Seasonal Artifact, an overhauled Eververse Store, Armor 2.0, weapon mod changes, damage and difficulty adjustments, instant leveling every player to 750, and more. But that’s not the only major change to Destiny 2 on October 1st.

The free-to-play version of the game, Destiny 2: New Light is also releasing on the same day as the game will convert a ton of its content to being completely open and accessible for free. This maintenance period will also include preparing the game for that major switch.

Additionally, the PC version of the game will transfer from Activision-Blizzard’s Battle.net platform to Steam on October 1st, another significant change coming to the game. While players can already pre-load the game on Steam, a migration process will need to take place.

Players should plan on getting any preparation for Shadowkeep done prior to 10 a.m. PDT on September 30 because they will not be able to sign into the game or any other services associated with it until Shadowkeep’s launch. The good news is that it is also during this maintenance period that pre-loading will become available for the console versions of the game.  Developer Bungie has yet to specify when pre-loading on PS4 and Xbox One will be available, but it will be during this 24-hour maintenance period.

Players can follow Bungie Help on Twitter or check Bungie.net’s support page for updates about the maintenance and pre-loading on consoles.
