What are the Trials of Osiris, and why is everyone asking for it to return with the upcoming Season of the Dawn? Glad you asked. Let’s take a trip down memory lane.

The Trials of Osiris were a limited-time event from the original Destiny. It was a Crucible event that ran every weekend as a modified form of Elimination. To enter, you needed to purchase a Trials Passage from Brother Vance for 500 Glimmer. Lose three times and the Passage no longer worked and you had to buy another one.

Matches were 3v3 with level advantages enabled and teammate matchmaking disabled, so in order to even enter the Trials of Osiris, you needed to have two friends who were at least decent at PvP. Without that, you couldn’t partake in the Trials at all.

The big draw to the Trials of Osiris was the unique rewards, but there was a great big skill wall in the way of getting that loot. In order to proceed to the Lighthouse and claim your rewards, you had to get 9 victories in a row with zero losses on a single Trials Passage. That’s hard. Very hard. So hard that not everyone enjoyed the Trials of Osiris. See the video below for an example of one such person.

However, the potential rewards were pretty great. Each year, the rewards in the Lighthouse rotated so there was always something different, but the Trials would always give a yearly exotic emblem, 4-6 motes Motes of Light, and one of four different Legendary primary weapons. In years 2 and 3, the Trials of Osiris would also reward players with a themed piece of armor and a chance for an Exotic item.

There were also some pity rewards too: on the fifth win of a single Trials Passage, you’d get a piece of armor, and on the seventh win you’d get a random Legendary weapon.

So far, there’s been no word of the Trials of Osiris returning in Season of the Dawn in Destiny 2. Some players see this as a missed opportunity, but others aren’t so keen to see the Trials returning. That said, the season runs to March 9th, so it’s entirely possible that Bungie could sneak it just before the season ends.
