Destiny 2 is preparing to give a more in-depth explanation about the new Armor 2.0 system coming to the game in the Shadowkeep expansion this fall. Developer Bungie has announced a live stream next week, August 14th at 10 a.m. PDT to give more details about the changes to armor in the new system.

Bungie said during the live stream three Destiny 2 developers will customize a Titan, Warlock, and Hunter with the new Armor 2.0. But Bungie will show more than just the armor mods; the stream will also show more about the new Artifact item and how Ornaments will work moving forward.

Bungie has spoken pretty generally about the new armor system coming in Shadowkeep since it was first revealed in the ViDoc that announced the fall expansion and the third year of Destiny 2. The gist of the new system is that armor will roll with a Recovery/Resilience/Mobility stat along with an Intellect/Discipline/Strength stat (which returns from Destiny 1, affecting charge rates on players’ supers, grenades, and melee). After that, players will slot in mods to pick the exact perks they want on each piece of armor.

According to a few details already revealed by Bungie earlier this summer, players will need to level up their armor in order to slot in more perk mods, but they will be able to slot similar or duplicate mods to stack a certain perk if they so choose. This obviously leads to questions and concerns about how Bungie can keep certain armor builds from being too overpowered, but that may very well be addressed in next week’s live stream.

When it comes to the game’s new Artifacts, Bungie has said that these items will require players to complete certain tasks to unlock their perks, but by the time players get to the end of an Artifacts’s perk tree, the effects of the Artifact can result in additional perks and abilities that Bungie have likened to being on the level of an exotic.

Lastly, Ornaments have been teased to be a way of offering players a more flexible way to change the visual appearance of their Guardians. Players have asked for some sort of transmog system, and starting with the changes to armor earned through Eververse, it looks like Destiny 2 is walking a little bit down that path.

Obviously, many questions remain as to how Armor 2.0, Artifacts, and Ornaments are set to work going into Year 3 of Destiny 2, all of which will hopefully be answered during next week’s live stream, which can be seen on Twitch, Mixer, and YouTube.

Destiny 2: Shadowkeep releases October 1, 2019 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One. A Stadia version is also in development.
