The entire Shadow Warrior franchise is on sale on Steam, and we might even be getting a brand new Shadow Warrior game very soon.

The last Shadow Warrior game, Shadow Warrior 2, came out in 2016. Since then, we haven’t seen much from Polish game dev Flying Wild Hog (which is perhaps the greatest studio name in the history of game development). Four years is about the right amount of time for a studio to make a new game, so we should be hearing something out of Wild Hog this year.

Further adding credence to this theory is Devolver Digitial’s latest tweet advising us that the Shadow Warrior franchise is on sale.

“While we cannot comment on rumors and speculation regarding future @ShadowWarrior games, we will state that getting the whole series at 75% off on @Steam is a great way to be all caught up,” Devolver writes as both a helpful tip and a marketing gimmick. They’re good at combining these concepts into one. It’s a cornerstone of their advertising strategy.

Anyway, if you’re into goofy first-person shooters that feature a katana-wielding assassin, then Shadow Warrior is likely a franchise that will interest you. The first game originally came out in 1997 from 3D Realms, the same folks that brought us Duke Nukem 3D. Wanting to create something that wasn’t Duke-related, 3D realms invented a character named Lo Wang, gave him a demon-slaying katana, and told him to go hog wild.

Fifteen years later, a Flying Wild Hog remade the game with glorious modern graphics and then gave it a sequel three years after that. It’s pretty good too. You can check out some footage of Shadow Warriors 2 below.

For those looking for the original cult-classic, you can get Shadow Warrior Classic Redux. This remastered version of the original features updated graphics and music, but still retains that old-school feel. It’s also the cheapest of the bunch and would probably run adequately on a machine two decades old.

As for Shadow Warrior 3, we’ll be sure to let you know more as soon as Devolver starts speculating.
