The Tokyo Game Show was held last weekend and a ton of announcements for Japanese games have been coming out. A little overlooked with the hubbub over Kojima’s Death Stranding, publisher City Connection has announced that it will be porting Deathsmiles and Deathsmiles II to multiple platforms in the future. Demolition Man 2 may yet break free from its proverbial project cryoprison. That’s because Sylvester Stallone, who headlined the cheeky 1993 action/sci-fi cult classic, has dropped the intriguing news that the highly-hypothesized sequel is on the docket over at Warner Bros. Stallone made the revelatory statement in a rather casual manner during a Q&A on his Instagram, answering a fan’s question about a potential Demolition Man sequel with a surprisingly potent—albeit brief—reveal of the project’s apparent position on the studio’s backlog....

Next week, Destiny 2 will kick off its annual Festival of the Lost event, a Halloween-themed celebration that typically uses the motifs of masks, candy, and hauntings to create an engaging gameplay loop. This year’s version of Festival of Lost will be somewhat familiar to those who participated last year, although there will be new cosmetics to collect and a unique weapon to farm. The Haunted Forest will once again be the centerpiece of Festival of the Lost, allowing fireteams of three to run through as much of the procedurally generated area in 15 minutes....

Devolver Digital has announced Ruiner, a “brutal” anime-inspired shooter heading to PC later this year. Developed by Polish studio Reikon Games, Ruiner is described as a futuristic “top-down action shooter created in the spirit of cult cyberpunk anime and game classics”, that puts players in control of a “wired sociopath” in the year 2091. “A wired sociopath lashes out against a corrupt system to uncover the truth and retrieve his kidnapped brother under the guidance of a secretive hacker friend,” reads the game’s description....

As the World Cup kicks off, video game publishers have of course devised strategies to cash-in on the hype. EA has an officially licenced World Cup mode in FIFA 23, while Epic has some not-so-official World Cup skins in Fortnite. Activision falls under the latter category with what is possibly the most creative (or bizarre) tie-in I have ever seen. In Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2/Warzone 2.0, players can now vote on which team they think will win future matches....

The new Call of Duty League kicked off last Friday, and the League released a sneaker collection to commemorate the event. The season opener was at the Armoury in Minneapolis and featured the 12 Call of Duty franchises battling it out for the combined $6 million pool. The sneakers were made in a collaboration with artist and shoe designer “Kickstradomis” and come in a combination of black and white colors to match the league’s color scheme....

Activision has delayed the arrival of Call of Duty Vanguard and Warzone’s season two while it deals with numerous issues across its games. In a blog post today, the publisher said its new season launch was being postponed by two weeks, from 2nd to 14th February. “Currently, our community is experiencing issues across Call of Duty: Vanguard, Warzone Pacific, and Modern Warfare,” Activision wrote. “We feel your frustrations and hear you loud and clear....

Mystery, murder and meditation meet aliens, federal agents and time travel in Calling All Earthlings. The documentary follows George Van Tassel, who mixed alien intelligence with the writings of inventor Nikola Tesla to come up with The Integratron, a time machine powered by electromagnetic energy. The documentary opens with a collage of witnesses testifying to strange lights, craft, and creatures with glowing red eyes, and then gets weird. Tassel was far ahead of his time, both technologically and socially....

UPDATE 18/5/22: Capcom has updated its list of best-selling games, giving us an update on the performance of its top titles (thanks, Gematsu). Monster Hunter Rise has now sold 9m copies on PC and Nintendo Switch since launch (with an additional 1.3m this year). Monster Hunter World: Iceborne has shifted 9.2m copies to date, with a further 400k copies this year across PC, PS4 and Xbox One. The original Monster Hunter World sits at 18m sold, making it Capcom’s best-selling game ever....

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has become a giant in the movie industry, clawing its way to the number one seat over all other existing franchises. Much of this is because of the financial success of Black Panther, followed by Avengers: Infinity War. Square Enix is marking today’s launch of RPG remaster Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition with a new trailer. Fans can look forward to the 1999 PlayStation classic with a fresh lick of paint in this release. The game’s 3D models and text have been given a HD overhaul, along with new artwork and redesigned characters. If you prefer a more retro style, you can toggle the visual upgrades on and off with the touch of a button too....

Bulletstorm, the explosive Epic Games/People Can Fly FPS collaboration, might be stocked full of enemies, guns, and cacti, but it will be restricted to a single player experience. In a recent interview with The Telegraph, Cliff Bleszinski, the design director of Epic Games, discusses the reasoning behind cutting a co-op campaign from the shooter.
