Destiny 2 Season of the Haunted - also known as Season 17 - marks the second major update this year. At the Gamescom Opening Night Live event, it was announced that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will hold a PlayStation exclusive open alpha for its 2v2 Gunfight mode this weekend. The alpha will begin on August 23 at 6pm BST and end on August 25. Five maps will be showcased — including the unseen Speedball and Docks — and there will be multiple Operator roles to take on. Activision also stated that ‘a number of other surprises’ are scheduled for the weekend, and a PS Plus membership won’t be required to play the Gunfight alpha....

PlayStation players should still get “at least” the next three Call of Duty games on their system following the deal between Activision Blizzard and Xbox, according to reports. Specifically, Bloomberg is citing four people with knowledge of the deal as saying the publisher had already committed as such before the merger. These include this year’s entry, widely believed to be a sequel to 2019’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. However, the report claims it also includes 2023’s Treyarch-developed game, and a sequel to free-to-play offering Call of Duty: Warzone....

Capcom’s recently announced home arcade emulator is causing some controversy among the arcade emulation community for its use of open-source software. Netflix has officially renewed its Castlevania animated series for a third season. Season 3 will be the show’s longest yet, with 10 episodes of vampire-killing action (and maybe a little more Emo Dracula). Castlevania has turned out to be the shining light of video game adaptations. While the history of bad video game movies and TV shows is long and regrettable, Castlevania proved that it can be done. You can successfully (and faithfully) adapt a video game into another medium without sacrificing what made the story and the characters in the first place....
Bowser’s Fury is a new stage for the famed Super Mario 3D World as it makes its debut on Switch. With this update, players get a new set of missions to complete. These new missions come in the form of collecting Cat Shines to free the various Islands from the sticky tar that covers them.
