Alen Ladavac, co-founder of Croteam, has left the studio to join Google München and work on its new Stadia streaming platform (via Gamasutra). ‘With a heavy heart, I’ve parted ways with my dear friends and colleagues at Croteam,’ he announced on LinkedIn. ‘I love you all, guys and girls, and I will never forget all the beautiful years I spent with you and fantastic things we’ve created.’ Ladavac was one of the founders of Croatian developer Croteam, with Davor Hunski, Roman Ribarić, Dean Sekulić, Davor Tomičić, and Admir Elezović....

Eight years since its initial unveiling and multiple delays later, Dead Island 2 is finally almost upon us - and ahead of its launch next April, publisher Deep Silver has shared more of its open-world, zombie-pulverising antics in a new digital showcase. Those with itchy fast-forward fingers will be pleased to know the vast majority of Dead Island 2’s 15-minute showcase is taken up by largely uninformative live-action sequences, featuring a group of zombie apocalypse survivors as they stumble across a copy of Dead Island 2 in a fancy LA mansion....

Death Stranding graced PS4s this year from the creative powerhouse that is Hideo Kojima, the man who brought one of PlayStation’s best exclusive (at first) franchises, Metal Gear Solid, to life. Naturally, Kojima’s follow up to his most popular video game series, along with his cancelled horror masterpiece P.T., would be an equally epic title with a complex and intriguing narrative. As is the case with any of the cinematic journeys that comes out of Kojima Productions, Death Stranding has the type of story that takes time to chew on, digest, and eventually realize that while there are holes, is a fantastic experience....

More deep dungeons are coming to Final Fantasy 14. Final Fantasy 14 producer and director Naoki Yoshida stopped short of detailing what they’ll contain and when, exactly, we’ll be able to play them, although he did confirm the roguelike adventures will arrive sometime with the 6.0 series of patch updates, the first of which we’re expecting in the next month or two. Confirmation came via Yoshida himself at the recent FFXIV Fan Festival in Korea over the weekend, who said he’d heard so “many people around the world wanted more deep dungeons”, the team was bringing back a series....

Online cooperative multiplayer game Deep Rock Galactic will be receiving another downloadable content pack of cosmetic skins alongside the game’s second season when it goes live at the end of the month, developer Ghost Ship Games revealed today. The Robot Rebellion Pack gives players four sets of unique armor with one for each class and a helmet with two variants with either full or half. The paid DLC also comes with a paintjob for other armor sets, weapons, your pickaxe, and single-player robot buddy Bosco....

Okay, Destiny 2 lovers, this one’s for you. The Valentine’s Day-themed Crimson Days event has once again returned, taking place between now and February 18. During that time, players can try out new mechanics and take on a number of special bounties. All PS4 and Xbox One day one editions of DiRT Rally will include a bonus Blu-ray disc featuring a full-length documentary on the late rally champion Colin McRae, Codemasters has announced. The documentary, which is called ‘Colin McRae Rally Legend’ is described as a full-length film that tells the story of McRae through his own words, and is said to be around 90-minutes long. The day one ‘Legend Edition’ will also come packaged in a cardboard slipcase and feature the Fully Loaded Mini Pack, which unlocks the Mini Cooper S and all of its upgrades, plus an exclusive livery and a unique engineer, which offers additional perks to the player....

Carto could potentially be the year’s best indie adventure — it’s certainly the most charming. Like its developer Sunhead Games, the game is overflowing with creativity and heart despite its small size. It’s a lovely journey of discovery and an awe-inspiring experience with a solid blend of puzzles and exploration. Involved, intimate gameplay and incredible attention to detail make even the smallest islands feel remarkably rich and expansive. There is a full sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 on the way. Today, developer CD Projekt Red lifted the lid on its upcoming projects, including one codenamed Orion. This, the company has said, will be the “next Cyberpunk game” and it will take the “Cyberpunk franchise further and continue harnessing the potential of this dark future universe.” There’s no mention here of the company’s long-in-the-works Cyberpunk multiplayer project, which it has been tinkering away on for years and previously described as a “triple-A” release....

Between the music and the visuals, the opening of the Chainsaw Man anime is almost perfect. Though, if you have any knowledge of the manga, you might notice ahead of time that the contrast between the opening and the actual show is pretty jarring.
