Early Access can really be a wonderful thing. It allows developers to take their time and incorporate fan feedback into their games. By the time release rolls around, players can be met with a complete, thoroughly-tested experience that was worth the wait. Days Gone director Jeff Ross recently called Sony’s decision not to greenlight a sequel “weird” after its sales success. Now, in a new interview with USA Today, Ross has offered a glimpse of what that sequel may have looked like. Admitting some flaws from the first game, Ross says a sequel would have allowed him to “create the definitive version” where he “didn’t have to necessarily apologise for so much”....

It’s been a long time coming, but DayZ will finally be shambling onto Microsoft’s Xbox Game Preview service on August 29. The format holder confirmed the news during its Gamescom info blowout yesterday, where it also rolled out a new teaser trailer for the survival-’em-up. Be sure to give it a gander below. Bohemia Interactive’s scavenger simulator originally hit PC Early Access way back in December 2013, and it eventually sold over three million copies by January 2015....

Microsoft’s user interface has not kept up with the unending stream of content flowing to Xbox Live Arcade. You know it. I know it. Microsoft knows it. In an effort to bring some order to what is becoming an increasingly chaotic space, Microsoft is launching a new content browser. Dubbed Destination Arcade, the “brand new recommendation engine & visual browser app” will give users the ability to sort the ocean of content available on XBLA a number of ways....

Many Guardians are in the endgame grind of Destiny 2: Shadowkeep, and this week presents an easy opportunity for them to grab some Pinnacle Gear. Guardians can get a score of 100,000 or above in the “Hero” difficulty (power level 920) Nightfall strike by simply grinding out some key enemies that spawn. This is a good opportunity for solo players of Destiny 2. The Hero difficulty Nightfall allows matchmaking, unlike the harder Nightfall difficulties but Guardians will still want to have weapons that are modded to kill Unstoppable and Barrier Champions for this week’s strike....

Progression in Destiny 2: Shadowkeep is in full swing. That’s due to the addition of two major endgame events over the weekend — the Garden of Salvation raid and the Vex Offensive. Both have immensely helped me in reaching 950+ power level (PL) on my character. I’m on my way to the hard cap of 960 power during the second week. It’s going to be a slog since pinnacle rewards will be the only source of powerful drops....

Bungie has confirmed that it is working on a new version of Destiny called Destiny 2: New Light that is not only going to be free to all users from now on but will include all of the game’s year one content. That includes the Curse of Osiris and Warmind expansions and all other content updates released during the game’s first year. On top of that, players will be able to purchase a Deluxe Edition of the game that includes four season passes that feature “a unique set of exclusive Seasonal activities, artifacts, and rewards....

Activision has revealed gameplay footage of the PC version of Destiny 2 running at 4K, in advance of the PC open beta which will run from August 29-31. The beta gives players a chance to play part of the ‘epic storyline’ and delve into a few cooperative and multiplayer modes. Players who’ve pre-purchased the game from Blizzard’s now-back-to-being-called Battle.net will get 24-hour early access starting from August 28. The PC beta provides the first opportunity for players to try out Destiny 2’s campaign mode....

Destiny’s final live game update – Age of Triumph – features a super cool Easter egg, which players over on Reddit have already spotted. Those who want to discover the hidden bonus for themselves should leave this page now. If you love reading about spoilers then read on. The Easter egg relates to the infamous “That wizard came from the Moon!” line of dialogue spoken by Peter Dinklage in the PS4 alpha test in 2014....

It won’t be long until Detroit: Become Human is available to play on PC, as Quantic Dream has revealed that the game will be released on the Epic Games Store in December. Quantic Dream was originally closely associated with Sony and the PlayStation brand. David Cage had directed three story-based games that started out as PlayStation exclusives, in the form of Heavy Rain, Beyond: Two Souls, and Detroit: Become Human. Quantic Dream has broken off from Sony and is now open to working with other platforms, as it was revealed earlier this year that the David Cage trilogy would be making its way to PC as Epic Games Store exclusives....

EA cancelled MMORPG project The Lord of the Rings: The White Council was announced back in 2006 and put on what turned out to be an indefinite hold just over a year later, and now some thirteen years on, former developers on the project have been speaking on the game, giving us us some interesting notes to pour over including the fact it used The Sims 3 to power its NPCs....

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s multiplayer Alpha is live for all PS4 owners over the weekend and it appears that fans have already taken a disliking to a new change that affects the player’s vision when on low health. The Alpha, which is available from August 23 to 25, is the first chance for PS4 players to try out the new 2v2 Gunfight mode ahead of the planned Beta in September....

Call of Duty and platform exclusivity have gone hand in hand for nearly a decade at this point, and most fans likely remember a time in the not-too-distant past when PS3 and PC players were forced to wait through an agonizing month-long period before CoD’s DLC would release on their platforms. These heinous, consumer-unfriendly corporate decisions proved exactly where Activision’s priorities were, and it only served to segregate the community, generating an unhealthy atmosphere of brand elitism....

It appears that 2022 is officially a year where anything can happen, proof of that is the existence of an Attack on Titan bundle coming to Call of Duty Vanguard/Warzone. This is indeed a real thing, as bizarre as it sounds. The bundle itself is called the “Tracer Pack: Attack on Titan — Levi Edition Bundle” which will let you live out your Attack on Titan cosplay in Call of Duty wishes, assuming those exist....

Activision has announced that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Call of Duty: Warzone’s upcoming Season Six will see Farah and Nikolai added to the game as Operators in Season Six. Farah was one of the main protaganists in Modern Warfare’s main campaign and reappears here after the story as the founder and Commander of the Urzikstani Liberation Force. She’ll be available right from Tier 0 of the Season Six Battle Pass with additional skins for the character available to be unlocked through progression of said battle pass....

Cody “Clix” Conrod is now unbanned from Twitch, putting an end to what many saw as an unfair ban from the platform. The young Fortnite streamer was initially banned earlier this week for playing with Zayn, another player who is permanently suspended from Twitch. However, it is supposedly not against Twitch’s guidelines to play with a banned streamer as long as they are muted throughout. Clix had Zayn muted (and even had him use an alias during the stream,) but Twitch decided to slap him with a 7-day ban regardless, puzzling many fans....

Super speedy combat-racer Gas Guzzlers Extreme is coming to Xbox One in Q4 2016, and to PS4 in Q2 2017, publisher Iceberg Interactive has announced. Developed by Croatian studio Gamepires, Gas Guzzlers first arrived on PC a few years ago, with the console version set to feature all the content of the original game plus its Full Metal Zombie and Full Metal Frenzy DLC packs. In total, expect 12 modes, 42 tracks, 21 cars and 12 different weapons, along a heap of zombies to mow down....

Relic Entertainment is bringing its World War II real-time-strategy franchise Company of Heroes back to PC with the third chapter of the series, Company of Heroes 3. A few days ago, I tested a single-player mission set in the relatively neglected (at least in video games) North African front, prompting me to play the Afrika Korps faction and their Italian allies as they push through a village occupied by the allied forces....

Control is a third-person shooter from Finnish game studio, Remedy Entertainment. Control is a sci-fi, horror-lite game that fits in with the studio’s previous two titles Alan Wake and Quantum Break as a sort of trilogy of the metaphysical. As a new IP, Control has a lot of original ideas and some really strong world-building. Unfortunately, the game never quite reaches its full potential, with combat, exploration, progression, and narrative each leaving quite a bit to be desired....
