Back in 2001, gamers were shocked when Soldier of Fortune’s revolutionary GHOUL engine was unleashed on the world. GHOUL allowed for unprecedented levels of extreme gore – letting players target individual limbs or ‘gore zones’ which would cause devastating damage to enemies. A shotgun blast to the leg would take it clean off. A Desert Eagle shot to the head would cause it to explode. You get the idea. Solider of Fortune had long been the marker of video game gore – the ultimate, never truly challenged or beaten....

Now, nobody was expecting a smooth and flawless transition to Nintendo Switch Online. The smack-talk about the service has been reaching fever pitch lately, and hopes were… well, they weren’t sky-high, that’s for sure. What nobody was expecting, though, was a big fracas so early on about the included NES titles causing screen burn-in. It looks as though we can rest easy on that issue, though. So, yes. One of the main goals of DeepMind is to provide more data to professional athletes and teams across many sports. DeepMind is using their technology to teach robots how to push a ball toward a target. They also want to expand this technology past soccer and into other sports. The biggest hold-up for DeepMind is that AI cannot learn from watching. This causes many of the simulated movements to be very alien-like, and they can’t be replicated outside of a simulation....

Destiny 2: Shadowkeep has been delayed until the first of October. The decision was made in order to let the devs at Bungie make improvements to the expansion prior to its official launch. Indeed, there will be a lot to look forward to and one of those is the upcoming Armor 2.0 system. Unfortunately, I cannot help but feel a few jitters and worries. You can watch their fairly lengthy and detailed Destiny 2: Shadowkeep stream which is all about the Armor 2....

The latest DF Direct Weekly lands, with the team spending a great deal of time discussing Gotham Knights and the mooted return of 30 frames per second gaming for the latest generation of consoles - something I’ll be discussing in a bit more length in an upcoming Eurogamer article. There are some interesting takeaways though: 30fps for a cross-gen title can be what you might call a fallback position if there are technical issues (which a look at the PC version of Gotham Knights reveals is likely the case) while the graphical brilliant of A Plague Tale: Requiem demonstrates that there’s always a limit to the capabilities of a gaming box with limited resources at its disposal....

Developer ZA/UM has announced that 2019 hit PC RPG Disco Elysium will be coming to consoles starting from March of next year in a new The Final Cut package, which will also be released as a free upgrade to existing owners. The Final Cut version will see the game get a full suite of voice acting added to all characters, as well as new Political Vision quests that include an entire new area as well as improved playability with 4K and 60FPS support on PlayStation 5....

This Disenchantment review contains spoilers. Disenchantment Episode 1 Matt Groening and Josh Weinstein (one of the showrunners on the latter seasons of golden age Simpsons) have some experience with this whole sitcom racket, so they know how to set up a world. The first episode of Disenchantment introduces us to the kingdom of Dreamland and its rather informal medieval fantasy setting. We also get a decent feel for our three lead characters—Princess Bean (Abbi Jacobson), Elfo (Nat Faxon), and Luci (Eric Andre)—and the dynamic between them....

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare has been out for a few weeks now, giving fans of the popular first-person shooter franchise plenty of time to battle it out in its online multiplayer arenas. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare begins its season 2 run tomorrow, and developer Infinity Ward has offered up a look at the content players can expect over the course of the season. The season 2 roadmap was actually leaked from an Xbox One account first, but Charlie Intel then confirmed that it was genuine....

Cosmetics are a big part of Call of Duty. Some can be acquired for free with Prime Gaming, but they are mostly purchased through the in-game store. Over the course of Warzone‘s life cycle, some cosmetics have proven to be controversial such as the invisible Roze skin or the Attack on Titan bundle, which has been causing problems. Now it appears that another bundle skin is creating some issues in Warzone Pacific due to a visual bug....

At Capcom’s yearly Captivate event, one of the most exciting games announced was an open-world action title by the name of Dragon’s Dogma. Considering this is Capcom’s first foray into the open-world high fantasy genre, they have enlisted two of their most prodigious and fruitful employees to lead the production of Dragon’s Dogma. These two creators are the producer, Hiroyuki Kobayashi, and the director, Hideaki Itsuno. You may recognize these names from some of Capcom’s more famous franchises, such as Resident Evil and Devil May Cry....

Capcom believes Resident Evil 7 will sell four million copies on day one, Capcom EMEA marketing director Antoine Molant has told MCV. “Commercially, [Resident Evil 7] is probably the biggest Capcom game we are releasing on the new machines,” explained Molant. “Ideally, we’d love to sell 4m on Day One globally. That would be great,” he added. “Looking at what we see in the pre-orders and trends these days, we’re pretty confident we are going to get there....

Code Vein is the new beautiful action RPG from Bandai Namco. Code Vein is an updated, Dark Souls-esque title that brings all the dark imagery players expected; it’s set in a post-apocalyptic dystopian future with vampires. During the battle for more blood (which many players got free for donating blood at TwitchCon), players will have to complete a series of missions. While most of the missions have clues to help solve them, the mission to find the Goddess Statue does not....

This past weekend at San Diego Comic-Con 2018, Capcom revealed exclusive details about the Resident Evil 2 Collector’s Edition. The survival horror game is a complete remastering of the original Resident Evil 2, which first introduced Leon Kennedy. The Collector’s Edition is available exclusively at GameStop in the USA and EB Games in Canada for $199.99 (239.99 CAD). Capcom also announced that details about a European Collector’s Edition are coming next month....

Good news, comrades! Command & Conquer Remastered Collection has been announced with a release date, and EA has detailed many of the new features that have been introduced into the game. You won’t have to wait too long, as the game will drop on Steam on June 5. It’s also coming to EA Origin, but let’s face it — you don’t actually care about that. Command & Conquer Remastered Collection will contain fully reworked Tiberian Dawn and Red Alert games....
