While we’ve been waiting eight years since the announcement of Cyberpunk 2077, the genre has been around for much longer. Coalescing in the early 1980s and having roots in much earlier literature, we have to wonder if the genre still has much to tell us. It’s been exhausted, parodied, and spun off in numerous forms such as steampunk, atompunk, and solarpunk. There have been several generations of movies that have defined and redefined the aesthetic, such as Blade Runner (and its sequel), Ghost in the Shell (and its remake) The Matrix, Ready: Player One, and Alita: Battle Angel....

Pacifica is one of six districts found within Cyberpunk 2077’s Night City, and while a little of that info has been out for a while now, developer CD Projekt Red took a deep dive into the area, describing its history and its habitants. This came as part of the interview that followed the most recent Cyberpunk 2077 gameplay stream, though some of these details did come from the gameplay itself....

Murder mystery visual novel Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc is coming to PC in February, developer Spike has announced. The game first arrived on PS Vita back in 2013, with next month’s PC release marking the first time the game has ever been available in Europe on a platform besides Sony’s handheld. Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc sees a group of students imprisoned within their school by killer bear Monokuma, with the player tasked with investigating their murders one by one....

It’s been five years since Dark Souls made its debut, and many fans still find it necessary to justify their love for the game. While Dark Souls is generally recognized to be one of the most significant releases of the last few years, there is still a healthy portion of the gaming population who may appreciate the impact of the title, but do not personally “get” why the Dark Souls fanbase is such an especially adamant group of supporters....

Ever since its launch in 2013, DayZ has received an impressive amount of post-release content. And developer Bohemia Interactive isn’t stopping any soon as the survival game’s biggest update of the year just got revealed. Dubbed update 1.14, it will introduce several new features to DayZ including Contamination Zones. Contamination Zones will change how people play DayZ forever. These new regions come in two variants: static and dynamic. Static areas contain lots of high-level loot whilst dynamic areas will make the world more lively....

Deliver Us Mars is the sequel to the award-winning Deliver Us Moon, which was released back in 2018. However, while Deliver Us Mars was originally set to launch on September 27, the developers have just announced its delay. The sci-fi adventure is expected to be full to the brim with action and suspense. The story on Mars takes place a decade after the first game. We follow the adventures of astronaut Kathy Johannson who’s responding to a distress call from Mars....

Festival of the Lost is back! It’s that time of the year when Guardians from all over the world complete activities just so they could collect masks in the spirit of Halloween. Although Festival of the Lost did not make an appearance during the first year of Destiny 2, it does make a splash for its iteration in Forsaken. That’s because players now have a playlist activity that they can keep doing to their heart’s content — The Haunted Forest....

Bungie has announced that Destiny 2 will be going offline today in preparation for Update 1.0.1.3. The maintenance work will begin from 3pm and last until 7pm BST. Just like last week’s maintenance period, players won’t be able to log in when the work starts. Players that are already in game will be given a warning that they’ll be removed by 4pm, or be kicked from the game’s servers within an hour of the maintenance beginning....

Pokémon: Detective Pikachu has concluded its first weekend in the box office and it has had the best opening weekend of any video game movie adaptation. The results are in and Detective Pikachu brought in respectable numbers at the box office during its opening weekend. According to Box Office Mojo, Detective Pikachu brought in around $58 million at the domestic box office, putting it second behind Avengers: Endgame, which is in its third week of release....

Devolver Digital, the publisher of games such as Ruiner and horror game Carrion, has confirmed that it will be holding a livestream for E3 2020. The company revealed its plans after the Entertainment Software Association announced that E3 2020 has been canceled. On Twitter, Devolver said that it is “genuinely bummed” about E3 2020 being canceled but that it is trying to find another way to make game announcements. The publisher said that it plans on holding an E3 2020 stream, which it is calling a Devolver Direct, or it may hold a press conference....

Nippon Ichi Software announced that the PSP series Prinny will arrive as Prinny 1•2: Exploded and Reloaded on the Nintendo Switch in fall 2020 (via Resetera). Anyway. Nippon Ichi Software gave one of them their very own game for the PlayStation Portable, and it was well-received for its strong visual design and comic moments. The sequel—Prinny 2: Dawn of Operation Panties, Dood!—added three new moves and three difficulties, and got a special story mode that determined the player’s health on their style rating....

Although the introduction of Call of Duty: Warzone might be the biggest thing grabbing the attention of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare players right now, it’s not the only thing Infinity Ward added to the game today. The latest of Modern Warfare’s weekly updates dropped today, and among the various changes it brings are a few noticeable changes to one of the game’s most notorious weapons, the 725 shotgun. It wasn’t long after the game launched last year that players discovered how ridiculously overpowered this gun was at first....

Artwork purportedly from Call of Duty: Vanguard appears to have been uncovered by dataminers in files for the next Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War update. As reported by Charlie Intel (and spotted by Video Games Chronicle), the images appear to showcase official artwork for the game. They also indicate there’ll be three editions, including a Standard Edition, a Cross-Gen bundle and an Ultimate Edition. Additional artwork posted to Twitter appears to show bonus content for these editions including an Early Access Open Beta....

With gamers having waited years for word on the next entry in the Half-Life saga, many of the reactions couldn’t have been more impassioned than when Half-Life: Alyx was announced on Twitter by Valve with a brief trailer. However, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt developer CD Projekt RED isn’t exactly convinced of its viability in the market, given that the game is currently VR-only. According to Destructoid, the subject of Half-Life: Alyx’s presence with that of Cyberpunk 2077 in the Spring of 2020 came up in an investor earnings call at CD Projekt RED....

This year’s CES has seen a focus on mobile computing power. AMD revealed new, high-end mobile processors, and Nvidia announced that multiple laptops with RTX graphics are being produced. MSI seems to be one of those manufacturers, debuting a new line of high-end laptops, all powered by Nvidia’s powerful GeForce RTX 3080 laptop GPU. By building in Nvidia’s RTX 3080 GPU, these laptops will be able to run any game or video with ease....

Gameplay footage of Wolfenstein: The Old Blood premiered at PAX East last week, and now you can check it out in all its 1080p glory on YouTube. The action was revealed on the Twitch.TV main stage, hosted by global community lead Matt Grandstaff and marketing VP Pete Hines. Available for £14.99 from May, the game follows BJ Blazkowicz in a two-part mission set within Bavaria in 1946 as he attempts to break into Castle Wolfenstein to steal the co-ordinates to General Deathhead’s compound, later heading to the city of Wulfburg to confront a Nazi archaeologist....

Our actual review of Civilization VI is going to be delayed (if it happens), considering review code just turned up today. However! I can still give you a few thoughts on it, as well as an in-depth look at the options, benchmarking, performance, and the like. As someone has actually asked me this, I’ll note that there appears to be no controller support aside from the Steam controller (which is basically a hybrid mouse/controller anyway)....
