Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) broke its own all-time player count record on Steam today. This follows a similarly-impressive broken record by Steam itself today, which shows that an astounding 19,107,803 players have been using Steam concurrently in the last 24 hours or so.
EA’s Motive studio may be hard at work on the upcoming Dead Space remake, but it looks like it’s already got more games in the pipeline. That’s thanks to listings spotted on the EA Motive job website by GameRant. The Montreal-based studio appears to be hiring for a Narrative Director to join the team in the early stages of “an exciting new project where story plays a central role”. The person selected will be responsible for “creating the narrative experience of our game”....
It looks like the dead will walk the galaxy once more. Recently, the rumor mill has churned out a potential Dead Space revival, set for an announcement during EA Play Live. GamesBeat’s Jeff Grubb teased this news, discussing how EA Motive is working on an “established IP.” Eurogamer later corroborated this announcement, adding that the news “tallies up with information [they’ve] also heard.” If that isn’t enough confirmation, Gematsu has also “separately heard that a Dead Space revival is in the works at Motive....

Cooperative multiplayer Deep Rock Galactic is getting a beach themed limited-time event just in time for summer starting next week, developer Ghost Ship Games announced today. The Space Beach Party event will begin next week on Monday, June 20 and brings a new assignment of missions that will reward with new hats when completed. The space rig that serves as a hub to all players will also be festively decorated to evoke an actual beach party....
Today the Asian arm of Sega released a new trailer of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Hinokami Chronicles. The trailer shows the first actual gameplay of the previously teased Sound Hashira Tengen Uzui, also revealing that he will launch in July as the first paid DLC character. While the trailer is for South East Asia, this should also work for the west, since the release dates for this game are usually the same....
Bungie’s split from Activision, ending a publishing partnership that spanned almost a decade, remains one of the more shocking recent corporate moves in the games industry. In the process, Bungie bought back the rights to publish Destiny, freeing itself to choose a new direction for the series, one that doesn’t involve a major publisher’s sales expectations. According to an Activision Blizzard earnings call (via PC Gamer) in February, those exact sales expectations are what caused a rift between publisher and studio....

Battlefield V’s mysterious battle royale mode is not in fact being developed by series creator DICE, according to a post on Reddit by EA’s Ben Walke. The post didn’t exactly reveal much of any additional information, with Walke simply commenting, ‘Royale is being made by a different studio, not DICE.’ Perhaps unsurprisingly, he didn’t reveal the identity of the mystery developer. Walke was responding to a thread that claimed members of the Star Wars Battlefront 2 team had been taken off the project to work on the battle royale mode....
